WHAT IS FEMINISM?

WHY?

- Why are women constantly on the lookout for a size, for something that makes us look good, for our weight?
- Why do men shout out to girls on the streets, as if they were simple objects?
- Why have women felt scared sometimes when walking home at night?
- Why are men afraid to speak their thoughts on the counter of being stereotyped?
- Why are men hiding their sensitivity for the most part?

WHAT IS FEMINISM?

To start understanding what feminism is we must know what feminism isn't. Feminism isn't the opposite of machismo. Machismo is gender inequality, the superiority of men over women. What feminism is seeking is to end with those inequalities.

Feminism fights to change several aspects of the overall society that impede gender equality, and the main goal is to reach a much fair world where women can also be protagonists of history and of their own history.
It is not easy to define feminism because it is one word that leads a very complex movement, but let's see some definitions:

  • American Heritage Dictionary: (1) Belief in or advocacy of women's social, political, and economic rights, especially with regard to equality of the sexes. (2) The movement organized around this belief.
  • The Merriam-Webster Dictionary: (1) The theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. (2) Organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests

FEMINISM IS FOR EVERYONE

Feminism is an issue regarding both genders. Everyone is better left off with gender equality. As Emma Watson states in the following video "If men don't have to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won't feel compelled to be submissive. If men don't have to control, won't have to be controlled."

We find many issues and things that might not make sense to most of us on a daily basis and in various aspects of our lives. The problem is defining those issues and talking about them openly. That is hard! But this is an open space. This is where we get to comment on those matters without being judged or misunderstood. Here is where you read, identify, understand, and elaborate your thoughts (if wanted or needed).
